Cadbury Light Vanilla Ice Cream vs Bulla Fruit ’n Yoghurt Frozen Yoghurt
Ever wondered which was better – reduced fat ice cream or frozen yoghurt? Judging by the packaging, it would appear that the frozen yoghurt was healthier. It has the National Heart Foundation tick, whereas the ice cream doesn’t, and it claims to be made with real fruit. Comparing the fat and sugar contents of both products, however, reveals that this is not necessarily the case. The ice cream contains 2.4 grams of fat per 100 millilitres, whereas the frozen yoghurt contains 4.9 grams of fat per 100 millilitres. So, the ice cream is actually 50% lower in fat than the frozen yoghurt. When comparing the sugar content, the ice cream also comes out on top with 10.9 grams per 100 millilitres compared with 19.9 grams per 100 millilitres of frozen yoghurt. It should be noted that some of the sugar in the frozen yoghurt is from fruit, however, cane sugar appears before fruit in the ingredients list (remember ingredients are listed in descending order). Both products taste fantastic and provide important quantities of protein and calcium. However, the ice cream would be a better choice for weight loss and maintenance.
