What is Impaired Glucose Tolerance?
Impaired Glucose Tolerance occurs where the blood sugar is slightly raised before diabetes develops. Losing weight and following a healthy eating plan will help to delay or prevent the onset of diabetes and complications. You may have slightly elevated fasting blood sugars (5.5-7.8mmol/l) or a glucose tolerance test that is above normal ( 7.8 to 11 mmol/l ).
We suggest following a diabetic type diet at this stage. Knowledge of diet, carbohydrate, glycaemic index, importance of exercise and trying to maintain an ideal body weight are all important. See a dietitian now.
