General Nutritional Advice & Weight Control

Overweight
Achieving a weight that is in the healthy range for height often improves energy levels and self esteem and is likely to reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases. (Heart disease, diabetes, stroke, hypertension) It is important to keep the weight off in the long term and this can only be achieved by permanent lifestyle changes. Healthy eating not dieting is the goal. We encourage people to achieve a slow steady weight loss by eating a well balanced diet, low in fat and sugar but adequate in protein, complex carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables, together with an enjoyable and sustainable activity program. Advice is given on shopping, menu planning, fat cooking methods, food budgeting, social eating, business lunches, alcohol, portion control, healthy snacks, weight maintenance, etc.

Underweight
Being underweight can lead to increase risk of illness, infection and osteoporosis. Regular, nutrient dense meals, snacks and drinks are encouraged and this usually achieves a slow steady weight gain.
